Day 15: Meeting a few more good friends
I took a look at myself in the mirror this morning and realized that it was about time for a haircut. The only problem was that I didn’t know any place where I can get a nice cut.
I hoped on my bike and headed over to to Jugolandia. To my surprise, they were closed. My guess is that they are not open on Sundays. Gaston and Javier need some time with the families, I take it. For me, I had to get my daily glass of orange juice somewhere and put in some time to work. I headed down 5th avenue looking for my alternative. Right near the intersection of Hotel Reina Roja, the racy sadomasochist feel hotel I talked about in Day 7 where I hung out with Liana, Malu and Fabio, I found another juice shop.
It serves fresh orange juice and other juice blends along side small finger foods like Tacos and even Tortas (Sandwiches). The owner is also a fairly laid back, down to earth guy who spoke English very well. They also had some nice wi-fi available for me to use. I grabbed a 1 liter glass of OJ, some fresh tacos and chatted with some of the owner’s friends including a fellow Torontonian who has now made Playa Del Carmen his home. After some good conversation and some great food, I headed over to my usual Starbucks to get some work done.
While I was working away, I was approached by a young man who looked a little over 19 who asked me for some assistance with the finicky Starbucks wireless network. Armando is his name and his project, a university campus social networking site with an original twist just landed some funding recently. It was very refreshing to meet a fellow tech entrepreneur in Playa Del Carmen after meeting many service, tourist and brick and mortar entrepreneurs since my arrival. “Finally, someone who speaks my language”, I thought to myself.
We sat there for a good hour talking about projects, tech businesses and the world of internet entrepreneurship. As for the haircut I set out to get today, it will have to wait till tomorrow. Thanks for reading!
