Day 16: A Beach Day & The Haircut

Nowadays, I don’t buy any groceries. I managed to find all the places that offer great food for good deals so there is no real need to buy any groceries. Eating out here is actually way more cost effective. You can get a full home cooked style meal for 40 pesos which is about 3 Canadian dollars. I was on my way to Jugolandia when I ran into Emma up the street, she was also on her way there and we decided to go together. She had to, however, make a quick drop off at her place which is right behind mine. Emma rents her place which is shared space for only 300usd a month. It’s nothing fancy but it’s decent. This again goes to show you how much of a deal you can get if you take some time to look around here in Mexico and how easy it is to enjoy many mini-retirements for less then $1000 a month. Compare that to staying at resort for 1 week which costs around the same. The food you get at these little family restaurants are also a lot better than the resorts and a lot healthier for you.

We headed over to Jugolandia to grab some breakfast. After eating breakfast, I was on my way to get some work done when I felt the need to go to the beach. When living/working down here, you can easily forget about the beautiful beach of Playa Del Carmen. The beach near my house is also very empty during the weekdays. I decided to postpone the work I had to do and head to the beach but I had to go home and drop off my laptop. The tides were very high and the waves relatively strong. This is probably due to the heavy rain a few days a go. I didn’t go near the water. I just sat up on the empty beach for about an hour letting my mind run clear. Doing this once in a while really helps me gain perspective. I tend to think a lot and clearing the mind for about an hour is like rebooting the computer. After spending the day in the sun, I headed back to my place for a siesta followed by some work.

I also needed to make sure that I got a hair cut today so I had to go find a barber. I found a great guy on 30th in Colosio that gave me a great cut for only 30 pesos (about 2 Canadian dollars). That part of the town does not have any tourists whatsoever which means that everything is offered at a great deal. That was all I did today. It was a very light and easy day, thanks for reading!
