Day 18: Fresh Fruit Juices All Day Long in Playa Del Carmen
I thought I was totally over the flu that I had. I found myself very sluggish today. I decided that I would go another day primarily on fresh juices. It is very important that I get my health back to the right place before I do anything else. I usually rely on fresh juices with loads of Vitamin C and dressing warm to get my health back to normal. I headed over to La Minerva for a liter of a juice blend consisting of orange and pineapple. After hanging out there for a while and talking with some of the locals, I headed back to my place to get some rest. On the way back, I decided to stop off at Jugolandia to visit Gaston and Javier. They whipped me up another fruit smoothie and I enjoyed it in the hot sun. That is one of my favorite things to do in Mexico, enjoying fresh fruit smoothies in the sun.
I went back home full of Vitamin C and took a nap for a few hours to help with the flu. I felt a lot better when I woke up. Maria, Alexandra, Pekka and Anu had some plans to go out for dinner tonight so they invited me to join them. I made sure that before I got there, I headed over to a clothing store to pick up a light jacket. Even thou the days are very hot and nice, the nights tend to be a little cool, especially by the water. So you do need to bring a sweater for the nights in January, especially if you have a little flu like me.
After showing up at Alexandra’s place, all the plans changed. Alexandra and I decided to just go out together instead and I wanted to go to one of my favorite places in Playa for dinner called “The Fusion.” They have amazing food, live bands, tables on the beach and also great prices! Before that, we stopped of at “The Social Club” which is a nice patio located right by her place. They also have some great deals and play some good music to help start the nights out. We had a couple of drinks and then headed over to “The Fusion.” We ordered some margaritas and I ordered some tacos. The tacos of Mexico are nothing like the ones you get in Canada. Everyone who comes down here needs to try them at least once. I wonder why they don’t make them like they do in Mexico. Every time Alexandra and I go out, we always joke about how we are going to end up in La Santanera. Instead we usually end up getting too tired before going there. La Santanera is an after-hour night club that usually starts livening up at 3am. One of the reasons why I have not been able to make it out there is because of the flu that I have been fighting. I feel it going away so that will change soon. We only made it to Santanera once on Day 13: Friday The 13th, The Nightlife Of Playa Del Carmen and Santanera.
I can’t believe that I am already on day 18. It seems that time has gone by really fast. I have also become very accustomed to this life here in Playa Del Carmen. Earlier today, Alexandra and I talked about how life is for those that live here in Playa. She mentioned that there can be a lot of sadness. “People come and people go, you learn to not get too attached”, she said to me. I can see how this makes sense. In a place like this where everyone is relaxed looking for some magic or excitement, the people we meet and those that we share these life experiences with, create deeper connections unlike anywhere else. Life here is about taking the time to connect with people deeply and all that matters is that very moment. Thanks for reading.
