Day 25: The Most Intense Workday Since I Came Here & Tacos Dany
This morning I had breakfast at Chef Alexandra’s place. I gave her the idea of offering her guests at her place the option to order gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner for a fee. It is working out really well for her and she is able to generate more income. Chef Alexandra is now growing her business with multiple sources of income. She hosts cooking workshops, offers private cooking, sublets her place on airbnb.com and now offers a menu for her guests that stay at her place. As a result, her income is growing and she is doing more and more of what she loves. On “Day 19”, we spent the whole day with me snorkelling, flying around Cozumel in a scooter and doing whatever we wanted in paradise, all thanks to her growing business and the speed of implementing ideas to create multiple streams of income.
When it comes to business, I believe in speed over perfection. Ready, fire, aim is usually better than ready, aim, fire. Most people fail or never start in business because they are trying to perfect something that has never been proven to work in the first place. They also seek advice from friends or others that never built a successful business before. Just do something to get started and always be trying new things.
Lifestyle design becomes even easier if you have multiple streams of income. This is why I don’t really like being asked the question “How does your business make money?” My response is usually, “we do everything” That is the reality, we do everything from technology to running nights at bars in Toronto and many other things. This is why we are recession proof. With a diverse portfolio of products and services, we can ride any wave when the market shifts. There are even sources of income that we make that is 100% passive such as my web hosting business that clients pay $60 a year to host their websites. It’s very low maintenance and very profitable.
Andrea and I had a meeting this morning. She was looking for creative ways of scaling her business. Our 3 hour intensive meeting left us exhausted but with meeting minutes and action items to fill a small book. After that, we headed out for lunch at Tacos Dany. Tacos Dany is a taqueria located on 2nd and 30th which is usually pretty empty. I am not sure why that is the case because they have some amazing tacos. The tacos are $8 pesos each and the Coronas are $20 pesos. I must have ate around 12 tacos, that’s right 12 tacos. They are that good! I then walked Andrea to the beach to show her where it is. I couldn’t stay on the beach however because I had work to do.
Suddenly, as this month in Playa Del Carmen begins to wrap up, I am getting a lot of business coming in. When I land in Toronto on the 31st, I have to go straight to a client site and the next day, I have to buy furniture for my new place. The remainder of the week is spent in a series of meetings and work. I am booked solid until the 4th of February when I teach a Speed Reading workshop to a group of 30. Yes, I teach Speed Reading and love it. I absolutely love teaching any type of dynamic, high intensity, controversial or edgy workshop.
After getting some more work done, Andrea came back to join in on the work, so did Chef Alexandra. Chef Alexandra’s table which is used to serve some of the finest meals in Playa Del Carmen has once again been transformed into a high intensity bullpen style work area.
For dinner we went back to Tacos Dany. Alexandra also promised to make us her famous margaritas tonight provided that I picked up a 2 kilo bag of limes for her. That is exactly what Andrea and I did, we headed over to the Walmart to pick them up and headed back to her place.
Piche showed up all dressed up. She was looking for a night out in downtown Playa Del Carmen. Chef Alexandra made the margaritas and served them. These were some strong Margaritas. Whenever I have some strong margaritas in Playa Del Carmen, the first thing that comes to my mind is Santanera. You can read more about La Santanera in my post Day 13: Friday The 13th, The Nightlife Of Playa Del Carmen and Santanera. Chef Alexandra was not up for it by Piche was all excited. She was heading back to Mexico City the next day so she wanted to make the most of her last night here in Playa. I declined the invite because I wanted to save it for the weekend and plus Chef Alexandra was not feeling well today. Tonight we all had a few Margaritas and went to bed except for Piche who went out. The bullpen office closed for the night after the margaritas went down.
