Day 4: What I Thought To Be Just A Regular Day, Took An Interesting Turn Again

I spent last night catching up with friends on Facebook and drinking Tequila mixed with some lime juice. It was great to connect with friends talking about the adventures and life here in Playa. I try and write as much as I can on what happens down here but honestly, so much happens down here! I went to bed at around 3am and woke up at around 11am heading straight to the little tortilla shop. I grabbed my day’s supply of hot fresh tortillas and whipped up my breakfast which consisted of fresh avocados, alfalfa sprouts, tortillas and a glass of pro-biotic yogurt. See the pic in the gallery below. A nice healthy green breakfast to start the day.

I had a call with one of my clients at 11am and fumbled with the internet connection that was acting a little flaky. I told Vivian my client, that I would call her right back as soon as I get to the Starbucks. Starbucks is my sure-shot source of reliable Wi-Fi. I got down there in less then 30 minutes, discussed business and then talked about life in Playa. She told me about how since she started reading my blog, it has inspired her to take this same step in the not so distant future. I was very happy to hear that! I always love it when I hear people planning to treat their life as an adventure.

After my work at Starbucks was done, I headed back home and took a bunch of pictures of the complex that I am staying in. See them below this post. I took a little nap on the hammock and went to work on the site. It’s amazing how after only having this site up for a few days, I have already received so much feedback and over 50 visitors to the site. Not to mention phone calls, emails and feedback from other tourists here in Playa. It definitely inspires me to write more. After working a bit, Sergio popped out on his balcony. Sergio was the man I spoke about a few days ago. We headed over to the local restaurant for dinner. See the pics below of the place…

Sergio can speak English very well but I want to learn Spanish. He began to start teaching me. I began to pick it up very fast and proceeded to communicate in a mix of English and Spanish for at least a few conversations. He asked if I was interested in heading over to his friends place down the street. He seemed eager to introduce me to his friend. I agreed but I told him that I could not stay for long as I had more work to do at home. “La cuenta por favor”, he yelled out to the waitress. Meaning “May I have the check please.” After paying, we headed out.

We headed up the street to his friend’s place. We ended up in front of another gated complex. It was much like the one I am living at except not very jungle like. It was, however, equally beautiful. We headed up the wooden stairs as the vibe began to change. It felt like what I remembered when I was a kid when my grandmother used to take me to visit Hindu temples in Goa, India. They always had this certain air about them. Now I was feeling the same way again. It’s amazing how so many parts of Mexico remind me of Goa.

I walked into a very artsy looking home that was peppered with pictures of different Hindu Gods. Staring at me strongly but in a friendly way, was a blonde woman with dreadlocks that hung down to almost her knees. She wore a sweater with Hindi writing on it. Another man who introduced himself as Gaston greeted me. There was a young boy and another woman also in the room. This was Gaston’s place. Emma, the woman with the dreadlocks was friends with Maria, my hostess. We all moved outside and began to talk. Gaston began to tell stories about the ancient Mayans. Everything that he spoke of resonated well within me. Gaston loved to talk about Lord Krishna, a Hindu God. I told him about Shiva another Hindu god and the stories of Shiva. He was very interested in what I had to say.

A small dog jumped on my backpack and started to fall asleep. “Do you want the dog?”, Emma asked me. “No, sorry I don’t”, I told her. The dog was very cute and I began to feel attached to it as it laid there on my backpack. I have no room for it and I certainly did not want to be responsible for this dog for the rest of the month. It looked like I little Doberman. It was just a little puppy. “Is this your dog?”, I asked Emma. “No”, she said, “I met this dog today and I felt I had to pet it. Normally I don’t pet stray dogs but I felt I had to pet this one so I did and he followed me around the whole day” Emma had an interesting energy around her. I can see why this dog would follow her around. She was very playful and childlike. Everything was magical for Emma. It was refreshing to have her on the patio although she did not really speak much. “It is getting late”, said Emma, “I have to leave.” She got up and started walking down the stairs. Sergio and I got up also. I told Gaston that we will talk soon. We agreed to go to some of the ancient Mayan spots together in the days or weeks ahead. Although I felt safe on the side streets of Colosio, the small section where we live in Playa, the streets are very dark at night. Emma however, did not look afraid at all but we proceeded to leave with her just in case.

The little dog followed Emma as she walked up the street and out of out site. “She is always like that”, Sergio said. “Emma is very playful and she does whatever. Sergio taught me an ancient Mayan handshake and he headed up to his place. I headed home to write this post and call it a night. “What should I do tomorrow?”, I asked myself as I headed back to the room.
