Day 9: More Mayan Insights Revealed
I woke up and jumped straight onto Facebook. Maria had sent me a message about meeting Jimmy, the founder of Casa De Las Olas, Tulum’s exquisite sustainable living inspired vacation destination. He wanted us to head up there today but I had not received the message in time. We instead agreed to a lunch meeting with him in downtown Playa during the hours of 11am and 5pm tomorrow. He was also on Playa time and, like I mentioned before, Playa meetings happen in flexible windows, not specific times.
I whipped up some breakfast and completed some work over the web. If you have been playing close attention to my pictures, you will notice a white cat with patches of color that I have been snapping photos of. This little guy joins me everyday when I work out of the courtyard. I tried to feed him some tortillas but he did not take it 🙁 Next time I’ll try some canned fish. This little guy keeps me company and every now and then, a chicken walks on by to join in on the work. It’s my little team, the cat, chicken and I. Where else in the world can you have a team like that?
After finishing my work, I went over to Sergio’s place. Emma was on the balcony laying in the hammock enjoying some hot rays of Mayan sun.”Joseph, can you help me write my resume? I have an offer as a snorkeling instructor and I need to make a resume”, asked Sergio. I jumped to the opportunity. “I write resumes like I write sales letters and they sell prospects to employers like crack”, I told him. I ran to my room, grabbed my laptop and headed back to his place to help him write the resume. After I was done, Emma looked over and said, “Do you know Mayan astrology?” The ancient Mayans were big on astrology, geometry and mathematics. I welcomed the opportunity to learn about their astrology. She grabbed my laptop, asked me a series of questions and then handed it back to me.”Bookmark these webpages and read this”, she said.
My views on astrology are as follows…
I am a believer that what we see in the external world is a projection of our internal world. Astrology offers us insight into what is going on in our head. When we seek answers from a place that comes from a pure heart and a clear mind, we will find the answers easily in the external world through tools like astrology. The Ancient Mayans knew this and they relied heavily on astrology as a mirror to learn about themselves. One however does not need astrology for answers, it is just a tool and a personal preference.
My Mayan astrology stated the following about myself.
- White Wizard invites you to step into self-empowerment. Empowerment comes from self-acceptance, integrity, and commitment to your evolution. Self-empowerment is not to be found outside oneself. Anything outside that brings you empowerment also has a divine foundation within you. If you feel a need for the approval of others, look to self-empowerment. When you feel effectively engaged, doing what gives you joy, your energy naturally expands to include more of who you are, and magic flows synchronistically into your life. Claim your alignment with the highest wisdom. Call forth divine action in all that you do!
- As you express unconditional love, you become more than you previously perceived yourself to be. You become illumined, the full manifestation of your divinity. In the embrace of your humanity, accept yourself and others unconditionally. Magnify your full presence. Yellow Sun will come in myriad forms to assist you. Be limitless. Accept and understand the nature of judgment, fear, light and dark within yourself and others. Love and accept yourself and others as you are, freed from previous boundaries. You are the dawning of the solar age. As you move toward your core of light, you will find a clear-light awareness that is innately innocent. In this place, the mind is restored to it’s original state of receptivity. Clarity and freedom become expressions of being, and bliss becomes the body. At this core of light, a new reality is born. From the union of the divine masculine and feminine is birthed the solar androgyny of cosmic consciousness.
Sergio, Emma and I talked and enjoyed the afternoon together. I gave Sergio my seaweed snacks that I brought from Toronto. Seaweed is hard to find here in Playa and I wanted him to try them. Seaweed is high in minerals and very good for our body. Sergio started to demonstrate to me a form of Yoga which he calls “Power Yoga.” I watched as he demonstrated hand stands and then proceeded to perform pushups while he was in his hand stand position. The demonstration continued to show agility and power. Sergio is hoping to one day build a Yoga school. One for harnessing and cultivating the warrior within ourselves. If there is anyone that is qualified to run a “Power Yoga” school, it would be Sergio.
As the sun set, I descended into downtown Playa Del Carmen. The city was lively as always and tourist after tourist walked by me working on my laptop at the Starbucks patio. I shared my stories with many people as they took note of my blog and offered me words of encouragement to keep writing. I was thinking of stopping off at Malin and Sara’s place but felt the need to wake up early in the morning. I could easily see how visiting them could turn into an all nigher and a deep sleep-in tomorrow. I actually like waking up early. In Toronto, I try to not to wake up later than at 8am. Ideally 6am is best for me. Be sure to check out tomorrow’s post as it will be about meeting Jimmy, the founder of Casa De Las Olas. Check them out at www.casadelasolas.com. Thanks for reading!
